In order to make it much easier to lift the boat out of sewing machines with back and forth boats, there are two devices:

1M. Vogel in Kaiserslautern (DE 15.549 of February 8, 1881, issued October 14, 1881) the boat is pushed out automatically when the slide covering the boat train is pulled out. For this purpose, a lever H is attached, the pivot of which is attached below the sewing machine plate P. The shorter lever arm slides in a groove of the slider S; the longer one comes to lie under the boat. A small wire D attached to the slider S and bent at the front prevents it from being pulled out completely.

2. S. Ballin in Hamburg (DE 18.788 dated November 16, 1881, issued July 20, 1882) attaches a circle eccentric to the shuttle basket below the shuttle. The latter is turned by a button and the boat is lifted. A spring returns the eccentric to its original position.

Patent for Bobbin Winder for TS model machines with low arm

DE 16.477 patent issued in 1882
DE 16.477 patent issued in 1882

The automatic winding device by Junker & Ruh in Karlsruhe (DE 16.477 from May 18, 1881, issued January 17, 1882 ) shows a peculiar type of triggering, which should be inferior to the construction of the self-active winding apparatus of H. Heise in Bremen (DE 20.522 of 28 February 1882, issued January 22, 1883). The spring x usually presses the winder onto the flywheel. When the coil is wound, the flap g, which is pressed on by the spring e screwed onto f, is prone to move downward. As a result, however, this spring e comes to rest against the head of the screw h and forces the apparatus to move away from the flywheel. The position of the screw h determines the time of triggering. The shutdown relate. the winding apparatus comes to a standstill here gradually and therefore can never be reliably recognized when the bobbin is finished; for the apparatus can also come to a standstill for some other reason, whereas in the case of a winding apparatus with sudden triggering of the workers, the changed position of the same is immediately noticed. The attachment of the thread guide web n to the pressure flap (cf. Biesolt & Locke 1883 248 * 278 ) should be advantageous for the good winding.

The device for lifting the boat from Junker & Ruh in Karlsruhe (DE 21.810 from May 14, 1882, issued March 29, 1883) is very similar to that of M. Vogel (cf. 1883 248 * 277 ). The double-armed lever is arranged at right angles to the shuttle and is set in motion by a pusher, which emerges from the sewing plate and is covered by a special small plate during work, when the shuttle is lifted out. A spring returns the lever to its rest position.

1883/1886

A sewing machine with a rotating boat, which sews directly from two commercially available bobbins and completes the stitch with a single turn, was designed by Carl von Rein in Rudolstadt (DE 22.682 from November 18, 1881) and later further improved by Junker & Ruh in Karlsruhe (DE 28.010 from May 20, 1883, issued August 5, 1884 and addition patent DE 36.361 from January 19, 1886, issued July 31, 1886).

ERDA

Erda is probably the Old High German word for earth. This name may also be derived from the Nordic goddess Jord . Erda also appears as Ertha, Utha, Herth and Edda.

FRIGGA

The Nordic goddess Frigg or Frigga is the wife of Odin in Nordic mythology and belongs to the Asen. According to some authors, another name for them is Saga. She is the goddess of protection of marriage, life and motherhood. She is the guardian of the hearth fire and the household. Guardian goddess of life and marriage, Queen of Heaven and goddess of the Asen.

The above and below sewing machines do not yet have an accessory compartment on the wooden base. Produced in the same period they have in common that object fixed on the right of the wooden base which at the moment I ignore its use.

Junker & Ruh high arm machine compared to Frister & Rossmann

Frister & Rossmann, one of the leading companies on the German market, around 1888 start to produce a new model with a high arm that will replace the very popular low arm fiddlebase model, a copy of Singer New Family 12The  F&R high arm model will have a few changes around 1900. The inspection plate to oil the gears located on the machine arm where you can read the different sizes of the needles with respect to the thread used was relocated at the back of the arm.
