The origins of the Bernina company lie in the invention of the hemstitch sewing machine by Karl Friedrich Gegauf in 1893
1932-1945 105 The first household sewing machine with the brand name Bernina.
In 1932 Wilhelm Brütsch designed the first BERNINA household sewing machine class 105, which was produced by Fritz Gegauf. The two business partners concluded a contract which assured Brütsch & Co. indefinitely the sole right to distribute the new BERNINA sewing machines for the whole of Switzerland.
