The share of the First Hungarian Sewing Machine Factory for 500 crowns

Shares from the Hungarian National Museum. Equities first appeared in the economic life of modern Europe. This form of association became popular in Hungary in the first half of the 19th century and then after 1867, within the framework of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, thousands of different joint stock companies were formed during the decades of the great economic boom. In the country, the form of joint stock company remained a major player in economic life until the 1949 nationalization. In the second half of the 1980s, in the last years of the socialist system, the form of a joint stock company reappeared in Hungary. However, in the early 2000s, the obligation to issue shares in paper form was abolished.
